Welcome to Kosada
Why Kosada?

Kosada offers a wide array of Web, Network, Video, and Audio development and production services.

We understand the unique needs of small and owner-operated businesses because that's what we are.  You'll feel comfortable working with us as well as confident about the final product.

At a larger company, the detail work of your project is delegated to compartmentalized, creatively uninvolved workers that produce assembly-line results without an understanding of the overall goals of the project.  When you meet with a Kosada project director, you are also meeting with a significant part of the team of specialists who will handle the tailoring of your individual project.

We know it's the little things that make great design — pleasing fonts and line widths improve attractiveness and readability of text; slick coding helps the site load faster; our custom-designed content management system optimizes search engine rankings as well as site functionality; personal service on a first-name basis ensures that your priorities lie at the heart of the project from start to finish.

At Kosada, technology is friendly!

Kosada has just unveiled a slew of new Drupal modules! The full list with links and descriptions is on our development portfolio. This is a short update because we need to get back to the module mine, but here's a quick 'n' dirty list:

And the following modules are being bundled for release in the near future:
  • LightweightRSS and Magpie: A quick and easy feed interpreter that displays a block rather than creating nodes, and a Drupal adapter for the Magpie parsing engine it uses.
  • RLib: Allows Drupal database queries to be made into reports using the RLib report writer

We are pleased to present the brand-new aacsohio.org.

Main features inclue interfaces that allow AACS staff to update the website and administer users on their own, newsblogs for each department, private forums for intra-organization discussions, and easy image uploading. We also set up support for translation into eight different languages, with user interfaces that allow translations to be added for any page or node. This system manages the translations effectively and keeps the many translation pages well organized and able to link to each other the same way the default English pages do.

Read more about the work we've done for AACS in the web portfolio.

"Finally, AACS website has taken new shape. We hired Kosada, a webdesigner company, to redo the AACS website which was completed at the end of October. [...] With these many changes, we are optimistic and excied about the upcoming year."

British video artist Roger Bolton recently commissioned Kosada for a custom Quartz Composer plugin. We developed a plugin that improves upon the built-in image display capabilities of the program. To read more about the details of the plugin, click here.

After we released Roger's plugins (to him, and, with his consent, to the general public via kineme.net), he posted his review of our work on Quartonian:

"I've used [Kosada's] services and was very happy with the result, highly recommend them if you're looking at doing something with Quartz Composer and need a node which isn't there yet."

Today the new Paper Is Bad Records, Inc. website, paperisbad.com, went live. Last week, Paper Is Bad artists project ruori and Tarvis released a collective total of three (3) new CDs, prompting the fledgling record label to improve its distribution by maximizing its online presence.

The new site (created with the drupal content management system) includes a store that can be searched by either artist name or product type, and that sells, among other things, virtual CDs that can be downloaded along with high-resolution album art, for those who would rather have just the art and music without having to pay for all that paper(!) and plastic. Customers sign up for accounts in order to place orders, so they can leave feedback on each product, and selected songs feature short samples that allow music to be previewed before buying.

Kosada's co-founders have been at work since the very beginning on some intriguing side-projects designed to eventually integrate into the Kosada business framework. Kineme is one of the most long-standing and dynamically evolving of those projects.

As of this writing, the new, drupal-based kineme.net has just gone live, and the kineme plugins are released to the general public for the first time via the site. Also on the site are forums, digg-style voting on bug reports and feature requests, and blog-style news.

Kosada's PHP Surveyor-based web survey for psychology student Berae McClary

Kosada recently designed and implemented a secure, anonymous web interface for OSU psychology student Berae McClary's junior research project. She was very satisfied with the results:

"Kosada assisted me with designing a web-based survey for undergraduate research. They were extremely helpful and knowledgeable and provided warm, prompt, personal assistance. My survey turned out perfectly thanks to their precise, thoughtful, tasteful, and user-friendly design and interface. They also even provided helpful tips and advice along the way.

They collected my data very securely following IRB standards and my own departmental and personal specifications. Kosada's web design services were more affordable and accessible than even my University's services. I would definitely work with Kosada again for future research as well as for other media technology projects."

Kosada ran sound for "Carmina Burana", Hilliard Davidson High School's musical showcase performed by Hilliard Davidson's Senior Choir, Chamber Orchestra, and Symphony Orchestra as well as Hilliard's Norwich Elementary School Chorus.

Thank you so much for your willingness to run sound for "Carmina Burana." We cannot begin to thank you all enough for the countless hours of preperation, lugging equipment, and all that you do. We truly appreciate your support, we couldn't do it without you.

Windows to Linux server migration for Erie Plating Company

Kosada has recently brought new life of Erie Plating Company's information systems by moving the most vital components to a newer, faster, more secure server in a shiny new server rack.

From three aging non-RAID Windows servers ranging in usable capacity from 15 to 80 gigabytes each, we backed up important data and processes and consolidated it all onto a new Linux RAID with roughly one terabyte of usable space. The results:

  • Roaming profiles with Samba – User preferences, configurations, and even desktop themes are now automatically stored on the server rather than on individual workstations. This is good for backups, workstation maintenance, and computer sharing.
  • Windows to Linux server migration - The sweet smell of organization.
  • Greater security — More specific control of file access and activity within the network; more sophisticated defenses against attacks from outside the network.
  • E-mail improvements — exponentially larger mailbox capacities, use of qmail, defenses against spam that are both powerful and flexible.

And we are continuing these developments to allow EPCO to further customize the crucial details of the security, the efficiency, and the productivity of their technology.

Inside the new mail server we set up for Erie Plating Company.

Kosada is helping Erie Plating Company gain an edge by reworking its information systems — helping to get fresh information into the hands of the people who need it most.

From upgrading the email servers to accommodate the growing load of correspondence — to providing support for custom workflow management software — to building a TWiki-based system for inventory, task, and ISO-9000 quality-control management — Kosada has already instituted a variety of improvements as part of its ongoing partnership with Erie Plating Company to help them operate efficiently with machines and effectively with people.

You should know that the work that you are doing with Erie Plating Company is extremely important to us.  I have never had the 100% success of VPN into Erie Plating as well as the speed that you have provided with the new mail server.  I suspect that [others on the management team] are finding the same from their remote locations.

[We] have been struggling with various information systems issues for a long time, and the advent of your arrival and assistance has become hopeful to us.

We will continue to appreciate your team's professional approach to our information systems needs and our people-support needs of same.

Thank you for your work with us to date.

Respectfully,
Dave Briggs
President
Erie Plating Company

Sample image from Berae McClary's product preference survey, funded by the Ohio State University. Survey design by Kosada.

Kosada has started working with Berae McClary, a psychology student at The Ohio State University who has recently received a grant to produce a web survey investigating the influence of gender on aesthetic design preferences.

Our role is to develop and implement the web survey with respect to privacy and security, as well as to format the survey to be user-friendly and encourage completion of the questions without influencing the subjects' choices.

The wireless point-of-sale terminal at Plain City Auction, Plain City, OH.

Today was the first use of the Plain City Auction network installation (voice and data) during an actual auction.  The proceedings ran smoothly — server, point-of-sale terminals, credit card terminals, telephones, security CCTV system — everything.

Everything ran perfectly, the [wireless roaming point-of-sale] terminal worked the entire night and even in the back room!
