Kosada recently designed and implemented a secure, anonymous web interface for OSU psychology student Berae McClary's junior research project.
We were able to build an unobtrusive, highly functional, user-friendly interface to allow study participants to make their preference decisions as free from outside influence as possible. We allowed the user to simply click on the images in the order of preference — click the favorite first, and so on. As the user selected choices, the ones already selected grayed out and a ranking number appeared below. If a user changed his or her mind, or entered something mistakenly, a button at the bottom of the screen made it easy to reset the question without affecting the other questions. A small bar at the top indicated how far along in the survey the user was at any given time.
The survey also had to go through the standard review process for all medical and psychological studies involving human subjects. We worked with Ms. McClary to determine the best way to maintain the strict IRB-required privacy standards — we had the flexibility to make the survey confidential (gathering participant information but keeping it highly secure) or anonymous (gathering no participant information). We used a secure login that was distributed to selected participants to limit participation in the survey to the pool of pre-selected study subjects.
Ms. McClary was very satisfied with the results:
"Kosada assisted me with designing a web-based survey for undergraduate research. They were extremely helpful and knowledgeable and provided warm, prompt, personal assistance. My survey turned out perfectly thanks to their precise, thoughtful, tasteful, and user-friendly design and interface. They also even provided helpful tips and advice along the way.
They collected my data very securely following IRB standards and my own departmental and personal specifications. Kosada's web design services were more affordable and accessible than even my University's services. I would definitely work with Kosada again for future research as well as for other media technology projects."
