Quartz Builder

Project timespan: May 2009 to present

QuartzBuilder allows you to easily create applications from your Quartz Composer creations, without having to muck about in Xcode.

Your compositions are encrypted, and plugins and simple resources are automatically bundled with the generated application.

Events and properties are exposed to the composition, allowing unprecedented control over the rendering environment — for example, the window can be made full-screen on launch.

Technical info and download available from kineme.net, as always.

Performance Inspector

Project timespan: January 2009 to present

Misconfigured patches can eat up memory at an exponential rate, killing your compositions. Or the problem can lurk more subtly, making the compositions jumpy or just slow. Unlike the built-in profiling tools, Performance Inspector performs a patch-by-patch analysis of the performance of your compositions while they're running, providing you with detailed information on which patches, exactly, are slowing your composition down. Technical info and purchase info available from kineme.net, as always. Quartz Composer Kineme performance inspector screenshot shows patches

Kineme 3D

Project timespan: December 2008 to present

Kineme3D provides support for 3D models in Quartz Composer.

Not only can you render your models, you can also deform them in various ways. Twisting, Gravity, Scaling, Bend Boxes, and Quantization are a few ways these can take place. You can also blend between two models with the same number of vertices, creating smooth motion for keyframed animation.

Art-Net Tools – DMX over IP with QC

Project timespan: November 2008 to present

Art-Net is a protocol for sending DMX data over IP networks. Kineme Art-Net Tools provides two patches for interacting with Art-Net devices:

  • ArtDmx Sender --- Broadcasts a structure of DMX values to the specified IP Network, Sub-Net, and Universe.
  • ArtDmx Receiver --- Receives broadcast DMX values from the specified Sub-Net and Universe.

This quick video (narrated by Beth) explains the basics:

Export Topic to PDF feature

Project timespan: July 2005

Since not all browsers automatically give a "save to PDF" option under their "Print" controls, we added a button that would save the topic to a PDF file, with proper formatting and only including the relevant content – that is, leaving out the menu bars, topic forms, metadata, and other ambient website elements.

Task Tracking system

Project timespan: August 2006 to July 2008

Our way of turning TWiki into a task-tracking system actually consists of several custom plugins and tweaks, including

  • Extending the forms functionality to create custom "task" types (comparable to Drupal's content types), allowing variables such as users and due dates to be associated with task pages.
  • Email notifications of task creation and status/ownership changes.
  • Periodic email notifications of overdue and soon-to-be-due tasks
  • Greatly enhanced dynamic form handling — added metadata search functionality
