The Sexual Assault Prevention Program of southeastern Ohio needed something up-to-date to put on their brochures. It had to be eye-catching and youthful, but still in line with the seriousness of the issue. It also had to express that while women are most often the victims of sexual violence, the issue truly affects the whole community. And while the phenomenon of sexual assault is one that degrades the individual, the logo also had to convey a potential for empowerment.
What we came up with was a map of the tri-county area that the program serves, with a stream of many different people going by as one woman stands, perhaps precariously, but looking hopefully upward, in the foreground. We used an informal font to give a down-to-earth feel, and muted yet vibrant colors paired with a slightly distressed texture to make the overall effect look a little retro rather than outdated.
